Discover How Hartwood Oak is Transforming Spaces in Newbury and Beyond, with Our Latest Projects

From wedding venues to hen houses, our projects reflect the diversity of oak’s potential. Here’s a closer look at some of the recent work we’ve completed around Newbury and the surrounding areas.

We had the privilege of working on The Post Barn, an exceptional wedding venue located in Snelsmore, Newbury. This project was a collaborative effort with Donnington Valley Hotel Group, ARK Architects, and Morris & Blunt as the main contractors.

The oak frame design was a critical aspect of the venue’s charm, and our team ensured that the frame perfectly complemented the modern yet rustic aesthetic envisioned by ARK Architects. In addition to crafting and erecting the oak frame, we also provided insulation and an acoustic package for the roof. The result? A stunning venue that has since hosted unforgettable weddings and events, with the beauty of oak at its heart.

Wedding Barn

In North Sydmonton, we were approached by a contractor undertaking extensive remodelling of a country house. Our task was to create a traditional oak barn to serve as the centrepiece for a cookery school.

The oak frame barn not only provided a functional space for culinary lessons but also added a sense of warmth and heritage to the environment. Oak’s natural beauty created the perfect backdrop for students eager to learn in a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing space. This project stands as a prime example of how Hartwood Oak blends functionality with artistry, providing spaces that both serve a purpose and delight the senses.

Cookery School

One of our most distinctive projects was an oak extension with a vaulted cruciform roof in Baughurst, Hampshire. Working with Bytlung and the client’s architect, we crafted an oak frame that formed the centrepiece of the extension.

The client requested a fully vaulted roof, which presented an exciting challenge. However, the result was spectacular. The oak beams create a dramatic yet cosy space, with light streaming in from every angle. This stunning living area has become the centrepiece of the home, showing off oak’s potential for transforming interior spaces into warm, inviting havens.

Another memorable project was an oak-framed shoot lodge in Inkpen, West Berkshire. This was one of the most beautiful sets of buildings we’ve had the pleasure of working on.

The complex included a shoot lodge/entertainment venue, garaging for several cars, stables, a garden store, and even a large parking bay for a horse transporter. We worked alongside Adam Architects from Winchester and Acorn Builders, who handled the groundwork and fit-out.

The oak frame was a critical element in making this complex both functional and visually stunning. With its blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern convenience, this shoot lodge is now a beautiful example of how Hartwood Oak Newbury can turn a vision into reality.

Shoot Lodge

In Ascot, Berkshire, we were commissioned to replace and significantly upgrade a tired range of prefab stables. The project evolved into a complex that included stables, a pool building, a tack room, feed store, staff accommodation, and garden storage.

Working on this large estate was a pleasure, as we were able to incorporate both functional elements and luxurious touches into the oak frame design. The result was a significant upgrade, blending practicality with elegance, ensuring that the stables and surrounding buildings harmonise with the grandeur of the property.

Stables and Pool

Finally, one of our more playful yet equally rewarding projects was a charming oak-framed hen house in East End, Newbury. While it may sound modest, this was a project where attention to detail truly shone through.

The hen house, set in the garden of a large country house, needed to match the high standard of its surroundings. The result was a beautifully crafted oak structure, complete with lead dressings, handmade clay tiles, and a gold-leaf-covered egg finial. It’s safe to say both the clients and the hens were thrilled with their new home!
